                              VENICE Venice is a city in northeastern Italy and the capital of the Veneto region. It is built on a group of 118 islands that are separated by expanses of open water and by canals; portions of the city are linked by 438 bridges. The islands are in the shallow Venetian Lagoon, an enclosed bay lying between the mouths of the Po and the Piave rivers (more exactly between the Brenta and the Sile). In 2020, about 258,685 people resided in greater Venice or the Comune di Venezia, of whom about 51,000 live in the historical island city of Venice (centro storico) and the rest on the mainland (terraferma). Thumri - Style of Music

Thumri is a vocal genre or style of Indian music.The term "thumri" is derived from the Hindi verb thumuknaa, which means "to walk with a dancing gait in such a way that the ankle-bells tinkle." The form is, thus, connected with dance, dramatic gestures, mild eroticism, evocative love poetry and folk songs, especially from Uttar Pradesh, though there are regional variations.The text is romantic or devotional in nature, the lyrics are usually in Awadhi and Brij Bhasha.Thumree is characterized by its sensuality, and by a greater flexibility with the raga.Thumri is also used as a generic name for some other, even lighter, forms such as Dadra, Hori, Kajari, Sawani, Jhoola, and Chaiti, even though each of them has their own structure and content — either lyrical or musical or both—and so the exposition of these forms vary.
